About Undead Undone

Bullets are free, health is not

These two rules together are the whole game. You have unlimited ammunition, so firing costs you nothing and there is no reason to ever hold back a shot. Your health bar, on the other hand, cannot be restored by anything - there are no medkits, no pickups and no regeneration between waves. Whatever you start with is all you will ever have.

That combination is less common than it sounds and it removes a decision most shooters are built around. Normally you weigh taking a hit against the opportunity it buys, because you expect to heal later. Here there is no later. Damage is a one-way ratchet, so a hit you take at thirty seconds is still costing you at four minutes, and there is no play aggressive enough to be worth it.

The correct way to play, then, is unglamorous. Keep firing constantly because it is free, and treat contact as something to be avoided absolutely rather than managed. Runs do not end because you ran out of resources; they end because you accepted a few small hits that never got paid back.

Moving is the only defence you have

You are not rooted in place. You move your character around, and since you have no shield, no dodge and nothing to heal with, repositioning is the entire defensive toolkit. Everything you can do to survive is a movement decision.

What that means in practice is that the danger is rarely the zombie in front of you - it is the one arriving from the side while you deal with it. Getting boxed in against a corner with two groups converging is how most runs finish, and it usually happens because of where you stood ten seconds earlier rather than anything in the moment.

The habit worth building is retreating before you need to. Because ammunition is unlimited, backing away while firing costs you nothing at all, whereas standing your ground to finish a kill a second sooner can cost you health you will never get back.

The zombies are dressed differently, not built differently

You will see several different-looking undead, and it is easy to assume the variation means something. It does not. The clothing changes but the behaviour does not, so there is no fast one to prioritise, no armoured one to avoid and no special threat hiding in the crowd. Visual variety, nothing more.

That is worth knowing because it saves you from a mistake: there is no target priority to learn here. Every zombie is the same problem, so the one to shoot is simply the closest one. Killed enemies are also not permanently removed from the game - the horde keeps replenishing rather than depleting.

The pressure comes from quantity instead. More of them appear as the run goes on, gradually rather than in distinct waves, so the game does not spike so much as slowly close in around you.

You will need a computer for this one

Undead Undone does not work on a phone or tablet. The start button does not respond to touch, so the game cannot be launched at all on mobile - it is not a case of awkward controls, it simply will not begin.

We would rather tell you that here than have you find out on the loading screen. If you are on a phone, the action and shooting categories both have games built for touch. Come back to this one at a desk.

FAQs

How do I start playing Undead Undone?

Open it on a desktop browser and press start. You aim with the mouse and click to shoot, and you can move your character to keep away from the undead closing in on you.

Do I need to watch my ammunition?

No, firing is unlimited. There is nothing to reload and nothing to collect, so there is no reason to ever stop shooting - backing away while firing continuously costs you nothing.

How do I restore my health?

You cannot. There are no health packs, no pickups and no regeneration of any kind, so whatever damage you take stays taken for the rest of the run. That is the central constraint of the game.

Do the zombies all behave the same way?

Yes, despite appearances. Several of them are dressed differently, but the variation is purely cosmetic - none is faster, tougher or more dangerous than another, so the right target is always simply the nearest one.

Are there weapon upgrades to collect?

No. You finish the run with the same weapon you started with, and there are no power-ups of any sort in the game. The only thing that changes over a run is how many zombies are on screen.

How do I survive longer in the game?

Treat every hit as permanent, because it is. Retreat earlier than feels necessary, keep firing while you do it since it is free, and stay away from corners - being surrounded is what ends runs, not being outgunned.

Does it get harder, and does it ever end?

More zombies appear as time passes, but it happens gradually rather than in marked waves, and there is no final stage to reach. The run continues until your health is gone.

Can I play it on my phone?

No. The start button does not respond to touch, so the game cannot be launched on a phone or tablet at all. It needs a mouse and keyboard.
