This is the hard one, and it is hard because it is about the games rather than the cartoon. Twenty questions drawn from across the generations, and several of them cannot be reasoned out from general familiarity: either you have played the relevant titles or you have not. It asks about regional settings introduced long after most casual fans stopped paying attention, the mythology attached to the legendary creatures, the mechanics that govern which attacks do nothing at all, and the multi-stage evolution families that competitive players track by their statistical profile rather than their appearance. Its companion, the Trainer Challenge, covers the anime and is rated Easy. If you watched the show as a child and never picked up a game, take that one instead. This quiz is aimed at people who have actually built a team, and it will not be gentle with anyone else.

The two Pokémon quizzes here split cleanly. The anime one asks about characters and a journey. This one asks about systems, geography and creature design across generations of software, most of which the television series never touched.
That is why the difficulty gap is so wide. Knowing the cartoon extremely well transfers surprisingly little.
Each pair of mainline games is set in a fresh region, usually modelled on a real country or a part of one, and each arrives with its own creation myth and its own set of legendary creatures tied to abstract concepts like time, space or life itself.
Questions here will name a legendary and want the region, or describe a mythological role and want the creature. If your knowledge stops at the first couple of generations, this is where you will feel it.
Most matchups are multipliers: some attacks hit harder, some hit softer. But a handful of combinations do literally nothing, and those immunities are the ones competitive players memorise because forgetting one loses a match outright.
There is also a category added years after launch, introduced specifically to rebalance a type that had become too dominant. Knowing that it exists and what it counters is worth a question or two.
Nearly every generation includes one three-stage family with an unusually high total stat spread, a long slog to fully evolve, and a dragon somewhere in its typing. Players group these together and the games never officially name the category, but it is universally recognised.
The middle stages of those lines are the awkward part. They are easy to forget precisely because everybody rushes past them.
A few creatures carry passive abilities so unusual that they define entire strategies. One in particular reduces incoming damage to zero unless the attack is one of a very small number of types, which turns an otherwise fragile creature into a puzzle.
These are outliers, and outliers make good hard questions.
Immunity is not the same as resistance, and this quiz cares about the difference. A matchup that merely reduces damage and a matchup that cancels it entirely will both appear as options, and only one is correct.
