There are two Pokémon quizzes here and they are aimed at completely different people. This is the anime one. It lives in the original television series, the one that ran on after-school television in the late nineties and became most of the world's first contact with the franchise, and it asks about the things a child watching it would have absorbed: the boy, his partner, the recurring villains who fail every week, the region he walks across and the goal he announces in the theme song. Its companion quiz, the Elite Challenge, is the games one, and it is rated Hard because it expects you to know regions, evolution lines and type interactions from titles the anime never covered. If you watched the cartoon and never played, take this one. Fifteen questions, all of them from material that has been rerun continuously for twenty-five years.

The distinction matters more than people expect. The anime followed one trainer on a fixed route with a fixed cast, while the games let you go anywhere and catch anything. They share a world and very little else.
Nothing in this quiz requires you to have held a controller. If you want the version that does, it is the other Pokémon quiz in this category.
The series has added many regions since, each with a new roster and new mechanics, and none of that is here. This quiz stays in the original one hundred and fifty-one, the original region, and the original journey.
That is a deliberate fairness decision. Almost everybody who encountered this franchise at all encountered that generation, whatever they did afterwards.
Every creature belongs to one or two elemental categories, and those categories beat and lose to each other in fixed ways. The anime taught this by having battles go badly for the character who ignored it.
The questions here stay at the level of naming a creature's category rather than asking you to work through a chain of resistances. That harder version lives in the other quiz.
A pair of incompetent thieves and their talking companion appear in almost every episode, fail, and are launched offscreen. They have a rehearsed introduction speech that a generation can still recite.
They are as much a fixture of the series as the protagonist, and they are fair game here.
Evolution questions run in both directions. Being asked what something turns into is easy; being asked what something came from is the version that catches people, because the anime rarely showed those transitions on screen.
