About This Quiz

Jujutsu Kaisen took the school-of-gifted-students setup that anime has used for decades and made it considerably grimmer, and it did that mostly through its power system. Everything in this world runs on one resource that is generated by negative human emotion, which means the monsters are not invaders from anywhere. They are produced by ordinary people being afraid and resentful in ordinary places, and the sorcerers who fight them are running a cleanup operation on a problem humanity keeps creating. This quiz sits in the early part of that story, the stretch adapted in the first season and the prequel film. Sixteen questions covering the students, the teachers, the enemies from those arcs and the rules the system runs on. It is rated Easy and it is genuinely easy if you watched that far, because the series front-loads its explanations, spending a lot of its first stretch teaching you exactly how everything works before it starts breaking those rules.

Before You Play

Background and what to expect. No answers given away.

One resource explains the whole world

Negative emotion leaks out of people and pools in the places where they feel it. Left alone, it takes shape and becomes hostile. Sorcerers work with the same substance deliberately, which is why the heroes and the monsters in this series are made of identical material and the story keeps pointing that out.

Once that clicks, most of the world-building follows: why schools train sorcerers in secret, why some locations are worse than others, why the strongest enemies are the ones formed from the fears that everybody shares.

Everyone gets exactly one trick, and it is specific

Individual sorcerers each have a personal technique, and these are unusually narrow and strange compared with most series of this kind. Not fire or lightning, but a particular rule imposed on reality that the character then has to be clever about.

That specificity makes for good questions and it is where most of this quiz lives. The distinctive ones stick in memory as images long before their owners' names do.

The teachers are the strongest characters in it

Unusually for a school-based series, the staff are not sidelined to make room for the students. One instructor in particular is treated in-universe as the most powerful living sorcerer, and much of the plot is arranged around the problem of what to do while he is unavailable.

He also has a visual signature that is instantly recognisable and has a practical in-story reason behind it, which is the sort of detail worth having straight.

Summoning is its own system

One of the main students inherits a family technique built around calling out animal-shaped servants from his shadow, each unlocked separately and each with its own name and role. It is the most structured power in the early series and the one with the most named components.

If a question mentions something being summoned rather than cast, it is almost certainly pointing here.

The Challenge

Techniques and the people who own them are asked about separately. Knowing that a power exists is not the same as knowing whose it is, and this series hands out very distinctive abilities to characters who appear briefly.
