About This Quiz

Professional wrestling keeps a more detailed public record than most real sports, because its entire history is storyline and its fans treat it as canon. Streaks, title reigns, debut moments and rivalries are all remembered precisely, and disputed with the seriousness of statistics. This quiz draws on twenty of them, spanning roughly three decades from the boom era of the late nineties through to results from the last couple of years. It asks about performers by their stage persona rather than their legal name, about the moves they finish matches with, about the annual events that structure the calendar, and about the family relationships that this company has always built stories around. Rated Medium. Someone who watched heavily in one era will find that stretch simple and the rest guesswork, which is the usual shape of wrestling fandom, and the quiz is deliberately spread wide enough that no single era carries you.

Topics Covered

Legendary performers
Nicknames and catchphrases
The major annual events
Signature moves and match formats

Before You Play

Background and what to expect. No answers given away.

Everyone works under a character

Performers here are known by a stage persona, and in many cases that name has been their public identity for decades. Some use a modified version of their real name, some use something entirely invented, and a few have worked under several names across their career as their character changed.

Every question here uses the persona. You will not be asked for anyone's birth certificate.

The calendar is built around a few annual events

This company structures its year around a small number of shows, one of which is by far the largest and functions as the season finale, and another built around a specific multi-competitor match format that determines who headlines it.

Each has a name that fans use as shorthand for entire eras, and they come up repeatedly here. Knowing which event is which is worth several questions.

Streaks and records are storyline, and they still count

Because outcomes are scripted, records here are creative decisions rather than athletic achievements. That does not make them any less carefully tracked. One undefeated run at the biggest annual event lasted more than two decades and its eventual ending is among the most discussed moments in the company's history.

Questions about numbers are asking about these constructed records, and fans know them to the digit.

Finishers are a performer's signature

Almost every established wrestler has one move that ends matches, with a name of its own, and the crowd recognises the set-up before it happens. It is the single most identifying thing about a character after their entrance music.

If a question describes a move, working from what it looks like rather than what it is called usually gets you to the right performer.

Family is a permanent storyline device

Real relatives, storyline relatives and multi-generation wrestling families are woven through this company's history constantly, and the audience is expected to keep track of who is genuinely related to whom.

At least one question here turns on a real family connection rather than a scripted one.

The Challenge

Finishing moves and personas are separate facts. Knowing a wrestler by sight does not mean you can name the move they win with, and this quiz asks for each of them separately.
