About This Quiz

Everyone owns one of these and almost nobody could label a diagram of it. That is the premise of this quiz. Eighteen questions on the organs and systems that keep a person running, what each one actually does rather than simply where it sits, and the handful of exact numbers that school biology drilled into everybody and that most people can no longer produce with confidence. It covers the major systems, the structures that protect them, what blood is made of and how the compatibility groups work, and the vitamins that matter for specific reasons. Rated Medium, which is about right: the organ questions are approachable for anyone, and the counts and the smaller organs are where scores separate. Nothing here requires medical training, but a couple of questions ask about parts of the body that people know by name and have genuinely never thought about the purpose of.

Topics Covered

Major organs and their functions
Bones, muscles, and body structure
Blood and the circulatory system
Respiratory and nervous systems
Human anatomy facts
Nutrition and essential vitamins

Before You Play

Background and what to expect. No answers given away.

Organs are asked about by job

Most questions describe a function and ask which organ performs it: what filters the blood, what produces the hormone that regulates blood sugar, what stores the fluid the liver makes for digestion.

That direction is harder than naming organs, because several of them do jobs people cannot describe. The smaller abdominal organs in particular are widely known by name and almost never by purpose.

The counts you learned at school

Human anatomy has a set of well-known totals: bones in an adult skeleton, teeth in a full adult set, chambers in the organ that pumps blood. Each of these is exact, each was taught to almost everybody, and each is easy to be one or two out on.

The adult bone count differs from the count at birth, which is the kind of detail that makes people second-guess a correct answer.

Superlatives are a category of their own

The largest organ, the strongest muscle by its own measure, the hardest substance in the body: these questions come up constantly in general knowledge and the answers are frequently counterintuitive.

The largest organ in particular surprises people, because it is not something most would think to classify as an organ at all.

Blood groups have a hierarchy

The compatibility system means one group can donate to everyone and another can receive from everyone, and those two are not the same group. It is a genuinely useful fact rather than trivia.

Vitamin questions work similarly: one in particular is unusual because the body manufactures it from sunlight rather than obtaining it from food.

The Challenge

The numbers are the difficulty. Counts of bones, teeth and chambers are the sort of fact everyone learned once and nobody has needed since, and the wrong options are always close enough to be plausible.
