About This Quiz

This is the broadest quiz on the site and the entry point to the General Knowledge category. Fifteen questions, each from a different corner of what people are simply expected to know: geography, astronomy, wildlife, sport, chemistry, literature, and one question that is not a fact at all but a logical paradox. There is no theme and no thread connecting them, which is the entire design. Rated Easy, though easy here means each individual question is easy rather than that the quiz is trivial, because nobody is comfortable across every one of these areas. If you want depth instead of breadth, this category has dedicated quizzes on the human body, on science, on space, on flags, on food, on famous inventions rated Hard, and on internet culture. Take this one first and see which of those directions your knowledge actually points in.

Topics Covered

World geography and capitals
Planets and astronomy
Animals and nature
Science and unusual facts
Sport and popular culture
Logic and brain teasers

Before You Play

Background and what to expect. No answers given away.

Breadth is the whole test

No subject supplies more than one or two questions, so specialist knowledge in any single area is worth very little here. Someone with wide, shallow awareness will outscore an expert almost every time.

That is worth knowing before you start, because a middling score does not mean you are badly informed. It usually means your knowledge is concentrated.

Superlatives carry most of the factual questions

Largest, fastest, most expensive, deepest. General knowledge leans heavily on records because they are singular and memorable, and because they get repeated constantly in documentaries and classrooms.

Where two options both sound plausible, you are usually looking at the record holder and the runner-up.

Collective nouns and animal facts are their own genre

Questions about what a group of a particular animal is called, or which creature holds some physical record, appear in almost every general knowledge quiz ever written. The collective nouns in particular are archaic and often faintly ridiculous, which is exactly why they stick.

One question is not a fact

There is a logical paradox in here, built around a character who is compelled to lie and a statement that cannot be consistently true or false. It has no factual answer and is asking whether you can follow the contradiction.

If a question seems to have no correct option, that is the one, and the answer is the one describing the breakdown rather than resolving it.

The Challenge

There is no run-up. Every question starts cold in a subject unrelated to the last one, and there is no opportunity to settle into a topic.
