About This Quiz

Clash of Clans has been running since 2012, which is long enough that a lot of people have played it twice: once as a teenager, once again years later when a friend dragged them back. This quiz is built for both. It moves across the whole game rather than drilling into one corner of it, so you will be asked about the things you build, the things you train, the things you cast, and the systems that sit on top of all three. Twenty questions, and they are spread deliberately thin across those areas instead of stacking up in one place. That spread is the point. Somebody who has only ever attacked will find the base-building questions awkward, and somebody who logged in for years purely to collect resources will find the combat questions harder than they expect. The players who clear it comfortably are the ones who actually engaged with both halves of the game, which is a smaller group than you might think.

Topics Covered

Village buildings and progression
Troops and their specialties
Heroes and unique abilities
Spells and battle effects
Resources and currencies
Leagues and multiplayer mechanics

Before You Play

Background and what to expect. No answers given away.

Two games wearing one icon

Clash of Clans is a base-building game and a combat game bolted together, and they demand almost opposite things from you. The building half is patient, economic and slow, measured in upgrade timers that run for days. The attacking half is thirty seconds of committed decisions you cannot take back once the first unit is down.

Most players drift towards one and tolerate the other. That is worth knowing before you start, because this quiz does not let you specialise. Roughly half of it lives on each side.

Why the unit questions are the ones that catch people

The roster has grown for over a decade, and its studio kept adding units that fill narrow tactical gaps rather than replacing what came before. The result is a lineup where several options look interchangeable at a glance and behave very differently in practice: what a unit will target, what it ignores, whether it moves over walls or through them, what it leaves behind when it dies.

Casual players tend to hold these as a vague feel rather than a rule. You know which one to bring without being able to say why. The questions here are written the other way round: they describe the behaviour and ask you to name it.

The parts people skip

There are whole systems in this game that a large share of players have never meaningfully touched. Alternative progression modes, the upper reaches of competitive ladder play, and the more expensive corners of the economy all exist regardless of whether you engaged with them.

If you stopped playing years ago, this is where the gaps will show. Not in the fundamentals, which have barely changed, but in the layers added on afterwards.

How to answer it

When a question describes what something does rather than naming it, read the description twice. The wrong options are usually units or buildings that do something adjacent, and the distinction is often a single word in the question.

The Challenge

The hard part is not remembering that a thing exists. It is remembering which of two similar things does the job being described, because several units in this game overlap heavily in role and differ only in what they will and will not walk past.
